Global Climate Wake-Up

09/18/09 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Politics, Society

We all know that the climate changes are becoming an emergency matter, but some of our leaders are still blind to that reality. That’s why the December 09 meeting in Copenhagen is crucial for all of us. There are some citizen organizations that work very hard at making our concerns visible to the world leaders.

Avaaz.org is one of them. Next monday it coordinates actions in a lot of different

Evolution is here right now

06/20/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Life of pleasures, Society

Too bad for the tennants of the creation of the World in 7 days by “a” God. Humans, if they’re not insane, know that any God considered as a good entity, would like them to be responsible for themselves. Thus creating a better world for the majority is the only survival goal that we need to seek for.

This is called evolution. In any part of an evolution there are still moments and even regressions. But evolution is “inexorable", or the species disappear.

George Bush and Stephen Harper, though very powerful at this very, small level, have the dissapearing gene very stronly implanted. Good for them, bad for us. Us being the majority of ordinary people that would ultimately just want to be peaceful and happy.

If they were so good, the World wouldn’t even need so much oil as intelligence and perception by now. The sun would be exploited, not our poor human neighbours. We would fly with solar, wind and who knows what, combination right now. Endless energy loops? Magnetic repulsion magnets and everything that proper funding could get out of our many geniuses.

They’re often hired to create havoc and everybody should think that it’s normal. Sorry it ain’t the way of evelution.

And here’s a reminder of what used to be called Revolution

Wind power will rise in Quebec

05/07/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Politics, Global Economy, Society

Yesterday the prime minister of Quebec announced that 15 new Eolian parks will be built in the province of Quebec. This is good news except for the view. The giant towers can either be perceived as beautiful or as being real ugly. The important thing is that they will provide clean energy and that’s what we need, or do we?

Bush & Co fight Vermont

05/02/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Politics, Global Economy, Society

The Bush administration provided a document in court in the case opposing the Vermont state to the US automobile industry. As the Environmental protection agency rejected the tough on emissions California law, the government asked the court to consider that in the Vermont case the previous ruling in favor of states controlling their emission levels laws should be invalidated.

Trying to set new precedents to go against the courageous states fighting in favor of reducing pollution is really another very intelligent gesture from that administration. Just what the rest of the planet needed by the way. This shows a great sense of leadership for the future :>

Almost at the same time India’s finance minister was declaring:

It is a crime against humanity to transform our food into automobile fuel

Right on Palaniappan Chidambaram, way to go.

Nuclear power is it really a solution?

04/29/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Global Economy, Society

Nuclear power plants cost a fortune to build and to maintain but it’s only the tip of the iceberg. For something as dangerous as it is, remember Tchernobyl and Three Miles Island anyone?, it also bares some long term costs that may not be worth their while. The extra costs come with the disposal of the extremely toxic and long lasting nuclear waste. As with every solution there are people who have economic interests in the process, same for nuclear.

Just give this video a look; it’s about the situation in England and the alternative solutions that could replace nuclear with a smaller footprint on the environment and, yes, smaller costs. It can be found on the Greenpeace UK website.

Canada sells its soul to the US for oil money

04/26/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Global Economy, Society

In Canada’s fight to perform a better management of the greenhouse gases we lose because we compromise ourselves in selling the tar sands oil to the US. In an article I was reading this week the journalist was titling

Canada is victim of the american appetite

This is total BS,

10 minutes a day to save the planet, that's the utopy

04/25/08 | by yevez | Categories: Environmental concerns, Society

I’m sure that I lot of people think of me as a dreamer and somewhat deconnected being. I often ranted about the environment and the challenges that we’ll have to face, which compared to the ones of today are immense, and sometimes came up with a simplistic vision of victory.

In the end I don’t think that I’m that shallow. I surely know that we have a lot of common work to do to make things better. That’s just another reason to call me a utopist.

That’s probably why I like John Lennon’s song so much.

Anyway I was reading recently that a lot of books recently published were carrying the message that we could save the world by using 10 minutes a day working on it. The perfect recycler, driving the most fuel hungry SUV can then feel good about their efforts. Good for you.

It’s not that simple, we need laws to protect humanity. Like the laws that protect our poor lungs against second hand smoke. It took a huge consensus to have these laws approved… and a few very important law suits wins.

Only stong, people oriented, governments are gonna change things, forget the Bush’s and the Harper’s of this world.

That doesn’t mean that our best efforts shall diminish, not at all. We just need to ask more from our electeds.
