You can find complete results forThe 2008 Green Cup on Pro Kicker as well as a big set of pictures, some taken by Cory current, some by Yves Archambault.

This tournament was epic. The finals offered a good battle between the German World title holders Florian Goetze and Patrick Schrickel who prevailed over PT Lovern and Manu Bouchard.

Many other interesting matches happened at the Green Cup, including my teammate Martin Côté nearly defeating Florian in one of the singles semi-finals.

Mr Goetze emerged as the new Footbag superstar in this contest harvesting the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles. That’s one more than what he accomplished at World Footbag Championships where he was second in singles. The king is dead…Long live the king!

Evolution is here right now

Too bad for the tennants of the creation of the World in 7 days by “a” God. Humans, if they’re not insane, know that any God considered as a good entity, would like them to be responsible for themselves. Thus creating a better world for the majority is the only survival goal that we need to seek for.

This is called evolution. In any part of an evolution there are still moments and even regressions. But evolution is “inexorable", or the species disappear.

George Bush and Stephen Harper, though very powerful at this very, small level, have the dissapearing gene very stronly implanted. Good for them, bad for us. Us being the majority of ordinary people that would ultimately just want to be peaceful and happy.

If they were so good, the World wouldn’t even need so much oil as intelligence and perception by now. The sun would be exploited, not our poor human neighbours. We would fly with solar, wind and who knows what, combination right now. Endless energy loops? Magnetic repulsion magnets and everything that proper funding could get out of our many geniuses.

They’re often hired to create havoc and everybody should think that it’s normal. Sorry it ain’t the way of evelution.

And here’s a reminder of what used to be called Revolution

First results for the Green Cup

05/25/08 | by yevez | Categories: Footbag, Life of pleasures, Sports and Games

The first day of the competition at the Green Cup started with singles Net. As it is more and more common to see at tournaments the singles part was a single elimination bracket. You loose a match you’re out. We played all the way to the semi-finals and there was one very noticeable upset: Martin Cote from Montreal beat John Leys who was seeded number 2. The semi-finals will feature Martin versus Florian Goetze as well as Yves Archambault vs 10 times World Champion Emmanuel Bouchard.

We then started the doubles competition and this part went pretty much as planned as the top 8 teams kept their seeds in a pool format. At this point there are 14 teams left and tomorrow we will play that through to the semi-finals. The top teams are: Florian Goetze and Partick Schrickel who are the current World Champions, Eric Wulff and John Leys who are the defending Green Cup Champions and seeded third the team of PT Lovern and Manu Bouchard. A Wild card team would be Kenny Shults and Randy Mulder. They are the guests of honor at the Green Cup this year (with Martin Cote) Kenny and Randy used to dominate Footbag net doubles in the early 90’s and they reunited especially for this tournament. Although these guys don’t practice much anymore they are to be taken seriously just for the sheer amount of talent that they bring to the game.

Taking off for the Green Cup

05/15/08 | by yevez | Categories: Footbag, Life of pleasures, Sports and Games

I’m leaving in a few hours for California and the Green Cup. The GC is one of the most important Footbag Net tournaments. It is held by the Chaos club of Oakland and most importantly it will be the leader’s marriage. PT Lovern is the heart and soul of Chaos, can’t wait for the event and the party that will follow, it should be something.

Then I’m gonna follow the Bay to Breakers race on sunday morning. On monday the 19th I’m gonna retreat to Yosemite with a good friend of mine. It’s part of getting ready for competition. We’re gonna hike and basically empty ourselves from the city stress and let the nature fill us with power… On thursday we come back to the city for a last practice before the tournament. The event starts on saturday in Oakland where it’s gonna be for 2 days. Then on monday it’s semis and finals day. We all wish to be there, but it’s gonna be very strong this year and I can smell a few upsets already. Pro Kicker is gonna be a sponsor of the event and the Impact Footbag will be the official bag of the tournament.

The Rallye is behind our Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens won, I was scared but they did overcome their own fears of the Bruins. A big bad bear was jumping on them for the last 3-4 games but they found a way to be a fast team again.

Carey Price saved the game for Montreal in the first period as the Bruins were attacking with all their heart. Congrats to Boston by the way they earned a lot of respect with the way they played this series.

Komisarek scored a lucky goal to put Montreal on top, who deserved it better. Leading in blocked shots and hits in the NHL this season, Komisarek is definetely the type of guy that you would want to have on your team. Then, Swiss player Mark Streit scored a superstar goal. He clearly mystified Tim Thomas to finally push the puck between the goalie’s wide opened legs. At 2-0 Montreal I don’t think that anyone was celebrating yet.

This Bruins team showed that they never give up. They finally did break in the end. The End of that game orchestrated by the Kostitsyn brothers. Andrei finally scored, not one but two goals and younger brother Sergei ended the match with the nail in the Bruin’s coffin.

Montreal is a really good team but they seem to lack the necessary experience to go all the way. Maybe that everything relies on Carey? “Price the Lord”

Finally, the spring

The sun finally gets stonger and the skirts are among us. As the weather curve raises the dresses and sleeves shorten. Montreal shows a smiling face again and it’s even better after such a rough winter.

That also means that we’ll set the nets up and kick footbag outside again. I’ll have to raise my beat to 3-4 practices a week soon in preparation for the Green Cup, California’s best tournament.

How hard is it to have to be outdoors to kick a netbag with friends, cruel life :> I guess I’ll have to be a Footbag slave again. Whoopi!

The Montreal Canadiens beat Boston in the 4th game of the playoffs

04/15/08 | by yevez | Categories: Life of pleasures, Sports and Games, Hockey

This was a close one, The Bruins and the Canadiens delivered a real good hockey game tonight. Boston was extremely tenacious and they came so close to execute a perfect play, which would have tied the game, in the last minute of play.

So Price the lord managed to shut the door with grits. The young goaltender sensation kept his cool in front of a very agressive Boston team. The game was spectacular but clean, which is always nice to see. Hockey is for real strong athletes but nobody likes to see their human superheroes hurt.

I personnally like fast play and spectacular goals, precise passes, good body checks but absolutely no undue violence. Thanks to both teams for a real neat game.

Final result: Montreal 1 Boston 0
Montreal Canadiens lead the series 3-1
